12 Month Update

On Tuesday, Roderick had his 12 month check up.  Even the doctor thinks he is a genuis! He didn't say that but I could just tell by the look on his face.  :-)

Here are all of the things our superstar is doing...

WALKING! Yep, thats right! He officially walked the week before his 1st birthday. He is still a bit shaky but he is a walker!

As of today he can say ball.  He loves to pick it up and walk all around the room with it.  The ball is almost as big as he is so I can't stop laughing when I catch him playing with it.

He knows what words mean even though he can't say them.  He understands airplane, balloon, flowers, phone, cow and ball of course.  Maybe the flash cards we use are actually working!

He is also learning to make animal sounds.  This kid loves to MOO!!!

Roderick gives kisses! This might be one of my favorite developments! When I ask him for a kiss, he opens his mouth real wide and says. "ahhhhhh." It does not get better than this!

He has 4 teeth: two on top and two on the bottom (maybe even another coming in on the top).

He is ALMOST done breast feeding! This has not been an easy transition but we are making some great progress.

Roderick continues to love his Wiggles.  If I even say the word "wiggles," he starts dancing.  This is absolutely priceless.

He weighs 19 lbs. 10 oz. (5-10 percentile) What a skinny little bugger.
He is 30 inches in length (50-75 percentile) He must get this from the Harvie side!

We sure love our big bear... I mean... BOY! XOXO

Roderick's First Birthday Party!

I can't even believe that our Roderick is 1 year old! I have always heard that it all goes by super fast but it really is the truth.  I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful family!

On Saturday, July 24th, we had Roderick's birthday bash! All of our friends and family were invited "under the sea" where the kids could play fishing games, swim in the kiddie pools, play on the coolest big toy, and hang out with lots and lots of other little ones.  There was a great turn out and we were so happy everyone was able to come.  The Kurtz-Harvie family even came all the way from Bellingham! A big thanks to everyone who helped us make this party what it was- nothing short of PERFECT! We could not have done it without you guys!
Roderick is not sure about the cake
I made this myself (okay, maybe that's a lie)

The crowd reacts!

We are very excited for this new addition to our family.  Not sure how I am going to do it with 2 kids under 2 but people do it all of the time right? God help me.  We have not figured out the significance of July.  Check this out...
July 12th 2008: We got married
July 25th 2009: We welcomed Roderick into our family
July 1st 2010: We find out we are having baby #2

Since Roderick's actual birthday was Sunday, July 25th, we decided to extend our little party.  I mean, who really has a birthday for one day in this family anyway?

Another HUGE thank you to all of you who helped us celebrate Roderick's 1st birthday.  We love you all and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  Just so you know, I won't be doing this for Roderick's 2nd birthday.  I think that will be much smaller.  There dad.  Now you have it in writing! XOXO

Water Baby

Summer is FINALLY here! Roderick loved his first experience in the swimming pool this past week.  He was a little apprehensive at first but after only a few short minutes, he was ready to go.  I can't wait to get him started in swimming lessons.  Our water baby loves the pool!
Uhhh, what do you have on me? Now nobody can see my six pack... geez guys!
Let me just park this car right about here.... bump
Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to the hot tub please?
Umm dad, you don't need to push me.  Didn't you just see me park the car? I can do it.
Where are all of the bikini babes my dad always tells me about? Hey ladies.... I have my own set of wheels!

4th of July Weekend

Roderick had his 1st 4th of July and he loved every minute of it.  We began our long weekend visiting with Mike and Samora Jones! Mrs. Jones (aka Miss Frank) taught with me at Stevenson Elementary.  Last year, these two crazy people up and quit their jobs to travel around the world.  Gotta love their free spirit and appreciation for a stress free life.   Since then, Mike Jones, the genius that he is, got offered a job at Google in California.  I'm sure going to miss these guys.  :-(

Friday night, we caught one of the the last ferries to Anderson Island.  We spent the weekend with lots and lots of family.

Saturday we went to the Salmon Bake and roasted marshmallows at the fire pit.  The only thing missing? A guitar and campfire songs.  Where was Sean when we needed him?

Sunday was the 4th and we could not wait to see how Roderick would respond to the fireworks.  He was totally captivated and could not get enough of the bright colors.  He was up WAY passed his bedtime and although he wanted to sleep so badly, he managed to keep one eye peeled.  I think its safe to say he is a lot like his mom in this way... he doesn't want to miss anything.  What a great weekend!
